Complex Wound Care

Nurse-led complex wound care for NDIS participants in Melbourne. From assessment and evidence-based dressing selection to prevention and specialist coordination, our registered nurses manage wounds safely in your home — available 24/7 including public holidays.

What Is Complex Wound Care?

Complex wound care is the clinical management of wounds that are slow to heal, at risk of complications, or require specialist nursing assessment. This includes pressure injuries (sometimes called bed sores or pressure sores), surgical wounds, chronic leg ulcers, and skin breakdown caused by underlying health conditions.

Effective wound management involves more than just changing a dressing. It requires proper assessment of the wound type and stage, selection of the right dressing and treatment approach, monitoring of healing progress, and early identification of complications such as infection. Photography is often used to track changes over time.

For NDIS participants — particularly those with reduced mobility, sensation, or circulation — wound prevention is just as important as wound treatment. At Evia Health, our registered nurses provide comprehensive wound care that includes assessment, treatment, prevention strategies, and coordination with GPs, wound specialists, and tissue viability nurses when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of wounds does complex wound care cover?

Complex wound care covers wounds that are slow to heal or require specialist nursing management. This includes pressure injuries (bed sores), surgical wounds, chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, skin tears that are complicated by underlying health conditions, and wounds at risk of infection. Our nurses assess each wound individually and develop a tailored treatment plan.

How can pressure injuries be prevented?

Pressure injury prevention involves regular skin checks, repositioning schedules, appropriate pressure-relieving equipment (such as specialised mattresses and cushions), good nutrition, and keeping the skin clean and moisturised. Our nurses assess risk, develop prevention plans, and train support workers and family members in prevention strategies.

How often will a nurse need to visit for wound care?

Visit frequency depends on the type and severity of the wound, the dressing used, and how the wound is healing. Some wounds need daily care, while others may be dressed every few days. Our nurses monitor healing progress and adjust the visit schedule as the wound improves.
